How I Make Money During the Weekend

One of the best ways to make money online is to create profitable websites that provide steady income. We’ve already seen how blogs make money in a previous article, which I’m sure has motivated many of you in several ways.

Making money through blogs, websites and online businesses really do require a lot of online time in front of the computer.

That’s just the case for every bootstrapper or online entrepreneur who is trying to make lots of money on the internet. Everyone wants their projects to be automated and passive, while providing recurring income that increases every month.

That scenario will eventually come for some of you but to get there, you’ll need to grit your teeth and get through the grind of trying to make money online.

Which brings me to the topic of this article: making money on the weekend.

Making Money Online During the Weekend

The weekend is usually the time to relax and take things a little easier. The free time you have on the weekend shouldn’t be spent churning out lengthy articles, primarily because the weekend is a slow traffic day and not many people are online.

Instead of putting out detailed articles on Dosh Dosh or my other websites, I usually take a break from content production and focus on some other details.

These include the following:

Networking. Building relationships is important when it comes to making money. These relationships can get you business deals, recommendations or just simply a link or mention from another website. I usually try to network via IM or email with a few people. Nothing heavy here, just touching base and saying hi or what’s up.

Answering Questions. Replying to feedback gives your audience a good impression and is very important for every site or business. All the emails that need replies are marked with a star and I’ll usually reply them on the weekend when I have more time. I’ll usually try to reply to some comments on the blogs I own as well.

Creating a Weekly To-Do List. I usually create a to-do list for the next week and try to complete them before the upcoming weekend. I like weekly instead or daily to-do lists because they allow me to work through the tasks at my own pace. If you’re interested, I’m using Tadalist, an online organizer for my weekly to-do lists.

On-Site SEO. Search engine traffic is money. Optimizing your site in order to improve your search ranks helps you to get more web traffic and hence profits.I have too many sites to optimize daily so I schedule all my SEO work on the weekends. This includes doing minor tweaks such as adding keywords to title tags or improving my internal link architecture.

Web Design. Like the SEO work, I usually do all the design tweaks for my sites on the weekend. I usually do a quick check on my sites through different browsers, order a few graphics from a designer or play around with the actual layout elements to put up a few more examples of social proof.

Monetization. I’ll usually run a quick check on my stats packages to determine traffic weight for specific pages to determine if I should set up some ads to capture the traffic. I’ll go through my Google Adsense dashboard and do a more thorough check at the performance of the ads.

I’ll also check the conversion ratio for my affiliate programs and make some necessary changes. I only do all these weekly because I don’t see any point in doing them on a daily basis.

Acquiring Knowledge. I subscribe to a lot of feeds and use several meme-trackers regularly in combination with del.icio.us. During the week, I’ll bookmark web pages that I want to read in detail and tag it as ‘toread’ on my del.icio.us account.

I’ll spend some time on the weekend reading all these articles. I’ll also read any books or eBooks I’ve bought recently. Knowing how to make money is half the battle won.

Doing Things I Enjoy. Balance in work and social life is quite important, especially because doing things away from work will rejuvenate your working life and hunger for success. I’ll usually do some downtown shopping or go out on Saturday night, either to a club or for a simple dinner and movie with friends.

On Sunday, I’ll do some sports (basketball) or hit the gym or pool. I like time away from my projects and I feel that they really put things in perspective. You might easily make 10K in a month but after all, its all about being happy and contented with your life.

None of these methods directly help me to make money but they are as just as essential as negotiating with a potential advertiser over ad deals for your sites.

All the little things you do on the weekend do eventually add up in monetary terms.
